Challenges and Solutions in This Case:
The project covers an area of 5,000 square meters and provides cold-chain distribution services for over a thousand of the company’s stores, enabling an end-to-end cold chain that encompasses all temperature zones (low-temperature loading docks, fresh produce sorting areas, frozen goods sorting areas, fresh produce storage warehouses, and frozen storage warehouses). The frozen storage area, which stands 11 meters tall and features high-density, high-bay racking, posed a technical challenge regarding the compressive strength of the floor insulation. Our company selected four layers of 50-millimeter-thick high-density extruded polystyrene (XPS) boards with a compressive strength of 600 kPa, totaling 20 centimeters of insulation. This ensured the thermal performance of the floor insulation while meeting the heavy load-bearing requirements of the high-bay racking. The project was completed in 2021 and has operated without incident for five years to date.
